History

Throughout our history, The Active Network, Inc., based in San Diego, California, has remained dedicated to our mission of enhancing the lives of individuals worldwide through technology and marketing solutions that enable and encourage participation.


Founded in 1998, The Active Network began as an online registration site for endurance races. Event organizers quickly realized the benefits of paperless registration, and following a series of mergers and acquisitions, The Active Network was processing more than one million transactions involving event and league registrations, web publishing and e-commerce by 2000.

Its registration and application services technology was soon adopted by a wide range of community service organizations that wanted to increase revenues, improve efficiency, and reduce the cost and complexity of managing activities, programs and events. The company’s popular Active.com community also became the “go to” place to sign up for participatory activities around the nation, and quickly moved up the ranks to become one the most visited sports-related sites on the Web.

Today, The Active Network is the largest global provider of integrated technology solutions, marketing services and online media properties that encourage and enable participation in activities and events. Its marketing promotions agency, Active Marketing Group, helps brands connect with active-minded individuals, and through the company’s numerous online communities, The Active Network provides consumer services and resources that support participation in healthy lifestyles.

The Active Network counts some of the largest governing bodies in sports as its customers, including the United States Tennis Association, Little League Baseball, and SAY Soccer. Over 75 percent of the nation’s top 100 largest cities use The Active Network’s operations management software, and the company processed more than ten million transactions in 2007.

Additionally, The Active Network has made a number of strategic acquisitions enabling the company to enhance its technology, increase market share, obtain top management talent and expand it services into new markets. In addition to the endurance and team sports market, The Active Network provides technology for governments, parks and recreation departments, schools, campgrounds and major business events to name a few.
