LA JOLLA, Calif. - November 8, 2004 - The Active Network, Inc., a leading provider of application and marketing services for the participatory activities and non-profit sectors, was named North America's 15th fastest-growing technology company in the 2004 Deloitte Technology Fast 500 program. The program, presented by Deloitte & Touche, USA, LLP, ranks the 500 fastest-growing technology companies in North America based on percentage revenue growth over five years. The Active Network had a revenue growth rate over five years of 20,354 percent, moving from revenues of $74,000 in 1999 to $15,136,000 in 2003. The company also ranked 5th among all Internet companies on the list.
"It's an honor to be on the Fast 500 list for the first time and rank among the nation's top technology companies after just five years in operation," said Dave Alberga, chief executive officer, The Active Network, Inc. "Our success is really attributed to the type of mindset, passion and athletic culture we share at Active. There's a point in the race where you start thinking about your own personal record, instead of the overall finish and the competition next to you. This type of thinking really drives our success. We spend much more time thinking about our own potential as team members, than company rankings or the competition. This has enabled us to join the prestigious Deloitte & Touche Fast 500 ranking, but it also motivates us to continue measuring ourselves against our own potential to achieve success. I believe this truly sets us apart in the industry."
The Active Network's solutions automate information collection, activity registration, facility reservation, and fundraising management for one of the largest customer bases in its industry. The company automates the collection of information and the processing of transactions for such organizations as Little League® Baseball, Komen Races for the Cure®, NFL Youth Football, New York City Department of Parks & Recreation and Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and delivers integrated marketing programs for corporations such as Unilever, ConAgra and Timex. Its marketing services division, Active Marketing Group, was ranked 15th among the top 100 promotional agencies in the U.S. by PROMO magazine. The company's Web properties, Active.com and eteamz, have made the Forbes.com "Best of the Web" list for four consecutive years.
In September, The Active Network was also named San Diego's second fastest-growing technology company in the Deloitte & Touche Technology Fast 50 program.
The Fast 500 list is compiled from Deloitte's 19 regional North American Fast 50 programs, nominations submitted directly to the Fast 500, and public company database research. To qualify for the Fast 500, entrants must have had 1999 operating revenues of at least $50,000 USD and $75,000 CD for the United States and Canada, respectively; and 2003 operating revenues must be at least $1 million USD or CD. Deloitte researchers examined financial statements to validate operating revenues. Entrants must also be public or private companies headquartered in North America and must be a "technology company," defined as a company that owns proprietary technology that contributes to a significant portion of the company's operating revenues; or devotes a significant proportion of revenues to the research and development of technology. Using other companies' technology in a unique way does not qualify.
