Active.com Now Brings Local Event Updates to Participants

<

LA JOLLA, Calif. - April 29, 2002 - Race directors have one more reason to turn to Active.com, the leader in online event registration technology, for their event management needs. The company is now delivering local event updates directly to participants, increasing registrations for events in more than 200 cities. Athletes now have a quick and convenient way to stay informed of events in their local areas.

Each month, Active.com members receive a brief listing of local events. The easy-to-read e-mail includes a selection of events listed by date and location, plus a link to registration.

At any time, athletes can request removal from the e-mail list, but as Active.com's Jon Belmonte explained, feedback has been overwhelming. "We sent out our first edition in February and received tremendous response from athletes. It's a great reminder for athletes and an excellent way to increase exposure and drive registrations for our event directors," added Belmonte, chief operating officer for The Active Network, the parent company of Active.com.

Active.com developed the service based on feedback from athletes registering online at www.active.com. Over 75% of athletes said they would like to stay informed of upcoming events in their areas. The monthly updates, sponsored by Nike, target 210 cities including major markets such as San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco Bay area, Seattle, Denver, Austin, Chicago, Indianapolis, Washington DC, Atlanta and New York.

"It was a nice surprise seeing the event updates in my inbox. I'm on the Active.com site pretty frequently, but this just shows the company is going the extra mile for crazy athletes like me," said Chris Stephenson, triathlete and member of the Los Angeles Triathlon Club, the largest tri club in the West.

Don Cummings is another event updates fan from the Chicago area. "I'm racing anywhere from six to eight events between May and October so things can get pretty busy. Stuff may fall through the cracks and I may forget to sign up, whether or not it was in my training plans," explained Cummings, a competitive age-group triathlete coached by Adam Zucco. Cummings, who lives in Geneva, Illinois, is a member of Chicago-area triathlete club Multisport Madness. "The event updates are a great nudge to get me off my butt and registered. Plus, demand for races increases every year and there are so many races closing early. This is a great way to stay on top of things and make sure I get in."

Race directors in cities nationwide use Active.com's services to set up online registration for their events, process registration, manage their data and promote their events on their own Web sites and on www.active.com. With investors such as Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong and Brain Maxwell, PowerBar founder and world-class marathoner, Active.com has deep ties in the industry and a solid history in participatory sports and event management. The management team and staff have both participated and managed events, from running and triathlon to adventure racing. For event directors, working with Active.com gives them the freedom to focus on their events. For more information about Active.com's services for events, visit www.active.com/myevent/
