2 Dates You Don’t Want to Miss in June: Global Running Day & Get Outdoors Day

Outdoor season is upon us, and people in your communities are ready to get out there and get active. As you plan for local events in the upcoming weeks, make sure you connect to and leverage two national days that will encourage fun fitness and activity within your community.

Use these days to showcase how you work to build active communities:

Global Running Day – June 7 #globalrunningday

Join over 130 countries and nearly 100,000 pledged participants (thus far) for Global Running Day. The mission is simple. It’s a national day for anyone to enjoy the joys of running. That could look like organized races, a short jog around a favorite park or tag in the backyard. Interested in bringing this fun day to your community? Visit https://globalrunningday.org for helpful toolkits and resources no matter how big or small your participation may be.

Engagement Tip: Promote the day and share members’ pledges on your social media sites under the hashtag #whyIrun.

National Get Outdoors Day (GO Day) – June 10 #getoutdoorsday

In its 10th year, GO Day is focused on encouraging people – especially youth – to get outside and enjoy the natural world. Obviously, it’s a great fit for recreation and membership organizations. Following the GO Day model, each participating venue will offer a mix of information centers as well as active engagement activities or “fun areas.” Inspiration to get outside continues throughout the rest of the summer when you encourage participation in follow-up EchO events.
