We sat down the other week with Iron Girl VP, Judy Molnar, to chat about how mobile technology has helped her and her staff manage activities and participants more efficiently… from anywhere!
Launched in 2004 with just two events, the Iron Girl brand has grown to 13 events nationwide, varying in distance from 5K, 10K, 1/2 marathon to duathlon and triathlon. Judy says their 5K events register more and more people on-site and needed an efficient way to process on-site registrations, both for her staff and for the participant.
We were pumped to be some of the first to take on our customer, Alpha Warrior, and their adrenaline-charged challenge! Recently, the Alpha team brought seven of the 20+ obstacles to ACTIVE’s San Diego office as a two-day test run. Like kids awaiting recess, our team watched in excited anticipation as a massive playground was built in our backyard. Check out the ACTIVE team in the video above as we took on a challenge that promised no mud, no miles and no mercy.
This week, we brought together sales teams from across the company to join forces in establishing the Activity and Participant Management (APM) space. Executive presentations. Technology demonstrations. Cross-company collaboration programs. And, of course, lots and lots of networking.
A key focus was to showcase how our technology is supporting our customers across seemingly disparate markets by making their lives easier.
We shared some highlights from a customer panel held a few months back where we saw first hand the common challenges organizers have across Business, Sports, Communities and Outdoors in growing their organizations at the same time as they create efficiencies across their operations. We are constantly inspired by our customers and we owe a special thanks to these very important ACTIVE experts:

Now that we are nearly halfway through January, New Year’s Resolutions to get healthy in 2013 are in full swing!
Getting fit is the fifth most popular New Year’s Resolution, according to USA.gov, and many turn to mobile apps to get active on the go.
Exploding out of the gates this year, ACTIVE’s Couch-to-5K running program app has seen a 173% increase in the number of downloads in the first week of January v. the first week of December 2012.
Since we launched the app in August 2011, more than ONE MILLION workouts have been completed…which means that our users have completed roughly as many miles as it would take to run to the moon and back…..four times!
ACTIVE’s Couch-to-5K is one of the top 10 paid apps within the Apple iTunes store Health and Fitness category, and the go-to 5K plan for actress Jamie Lee Curtis (we are seriously stoked about this…learn more below).
I sat down today with our mobile guru, Courtney Ferguson, to chat about all the hubbub.
Today we announced that we’re working with Run Ireland, the largest website for running events in Ireland, tocreate the most up-to-date searchable directory of running events in Ireland and enable runners to easily enter local races online.
More than 350 races, like Runamouck Challenge, Meath Spring Half Marathon, Kinvara Rock and Road 10K & Half Marathon and Urban Trails, will move to ACTIVE’s online registration technology.
It’s that time of year – everyone is making resolutions to improve their lives, and it’s no surprise that losing weight and exercising more is at the top of most lists.
If you are an endurance sports event director, you can capitalize on the resolutions your participants are making by encouraging them to stick to it, which will create interest in your event as a byproduct.
Our resident writing muse, Shannon Fiack, details five ways in which you can support your participants’ New Year’s Resolutions to get fit and healthy on our Endurance blog. Check it out, here!
If you think Mob events, like zombie chases, mud runs, paint races, and tomato fights were big in 2012, just wait until 2013. ACTIVE’s Mob customers, including The Color Run™ and Spartan Races, saw more than one million participants in 2012 and the numbers are continuing to surge into 2013.
As the New Year approaches, below are 5 important trends to watch:

We’re on the ground here at the Wide World of Sports complex at Walt Disney World to cheer participants on at the 2012 Pop Warner Super Bowl and National Cheer & Dance Championships.
The energy here is electric as young players, dancers and cheerleaders take to the field or stage and inspire us all to get out of our seats and get ACTIVE!
All of this excitement brings us back to when we first started working with Pop Warner nearly a decade ago. We are jazzed to be the official technology partner of Pop Warner, providing registration software to over 1,400 associations and 400,000 Pop Warner Little Scholars.
For years, race directors have called for an insurance product to protect both event directors and race registrants alike in case of unforeseen events, says Sally Smith of Big Sur Events. How big is this problem? Roughly 15% of race registrants never even make it to the starting line because of unforeseen events, like a sprained ankle, says Allianz.
Today, ACTIVE Network and Allianz Global Assistance announced that ACTIVE.com race registrants can purchase Race Registration Protector. During registration, participants will be provided with the option to purchase Registration Protector. With Registration Protector, a participant who misses an event for a covered reason such as an injury, illness, job loss, transportation delays, military/family/legal obligations, and more can get their registration fees reimbursed.
This is the first insurance product of its kind to be offered to registrants in the endurance market. For more information, read the full press release on our website.
