Delivering Local Content to 27,000 Web Sites
Minneapolis, MN, October 6, 2009 – DigitalTown, Inc (OTC.BB:DGTW) and The Active Network, Inc. (Active) have signed a Strategic Alliance Agreement covering a range of content, technology and business services. The companies intend to leverage Active’s extensive data and applications suite to leverage DigitalTown’s unique portfolio of 27,000 URLs in the market for hyper-local content.
“Our portfolio of URLs is primarily focused on ‘spirit sites,’ consisting of high school and mascot names. We believe that this is one of the more compelling focal points for community life in North America,” stated Richard Pomije, Chairman and CEO of DigitalTown. “With Active’s local content and technology solutions we can deliver hyper-local solutions including a unique advertising model.”
Through the strategic alliance, the companies will initially focus on integrating Active.com content, including an extensive directory of events and facilities, school schedules, scores and rankings, with DigitalTown’s web sites. The companies will also collaborate on a number of technology solutions including event registration and organization, team and organizational web sites, and localized online communities.
“The local high school provides a natural focal point for most communities” noted Alan Cole, Vice President of Active Media Properties, a business unit of The Active Network. “Through our family of Active.com media properties we can deliver timely, hyper-local content which resonates with students, families and local supporters.”
In addition to content and technology, the companies intend to monetize the sites through online advertising and a variety of subscription and transaction services.
