We made it back from Vegas and Meeting Professional International’s World Education Conference!

Meeting Professionals International's World Education Conference 2013

This year’s WEC was all about elevating the meetings profession, and the professional.
The General Sessions challenged us all to think outside the box to create the best events possible and realize our potential as planners. TED Sr. Fellow and Urban Space Artist & Designer Candy Chang inspired us to think in new ways in order to revitalize our meetings. Alexis M. Herman challenged us to raise the bar in order to all to realize our full potential as planners, while DJ Splyce and Marvelless Mark reminded us of the power of music and entertainment for creating meaningful, and memorable, events.

Education sessions covered everything from measuring ROI, to top issues and trends for global and healthcare CMPs, to risk management, to the importance of social media, mobile, and gamification in maximizing attendee engagement throughout the lifecycle of any event—from beginning to end and beyond. Our very own Linda McNairy, director of Strategic Business Development, participated in a panel about the importance of Strategic Meetings Management (SMM). Oh, and there was wine and cheese! Linda also spoke on a panel about getting management fired up about SMM, while Justin Ramers, our director of Digital Marketing, presented on the importance of social media in maximizing attendee engagement. Cece Salomon-Lee, director of Content Marketing, spoke about the mobile revolution and how today’s meeting and event planners must tailor the content of their events for mobile technology.

MPI Suppliers showcased their latest and greatest products for meeting professionals in the Marketsquare as jugglers, saxophone players, elaborately-costumed women and other live entertainment roamed the halls … hey, it’s Vegas!

We announced the new ACTIVE RegOnline, our entry-level online event-management software for planners with all levels of experience. The software’s completely redesigned, easy-to-use, and intuitive user interface, and navigation structure, make it easy for any planner—from the novice to the expert—to plan, promote and manage any event. The new ACTIVE RegOnline is expected to be available in North America in late August, with the International rollout planned for late 2013. For more information, click here.

The evening events brought networking opportunities galore! On Saturday, we rocked out with Billy Idol and the original MTV VJs. On Sunday night, our very own Kevin Iwamoto, vice president of Industry Strategy, made it all the way to the final table in Sunday night’s “The Big Deal” charity poker game! Who knew?!? We got our retro on with 70’s cover band “Boogie Knights” at the Rio on Monday, and the closing event on Tuesday was a performance by Dierks Bentley at Mandalay Bay. What a way to close out a great event!

We’re looking forward to doing it all again, next year. See you in Minneapolis!

If you are planning to attend GBTA in San Diego next weekend (August 4-7), stop by our booth #2937!
