Each year, the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) sets out to build a new park or completely revamp an existing space in the city hosting the NRPA Annual Conference as part of its Parks Build Community program. Last year, that park was the Catherine Street Park right in the heart of Baltimore, and ACTIVE Network is proud to be a premier research partner of the project.

NRPA teamed up with North Caroline State University to begin collecting data pre-renovation in 2018, and will continue to do so until 2023. The goal is to accurately measure the transformational impacts that parks have on their community's physical health, economy, public safety and more.

As a part of NRPA's July edition of its e-magazine, the year one report was released. Some of the highlights include a 10 percent increase in number of people observed per hour and a 25 percent increase in youth activity during observations. The full report can be read below.

ACTIVE Network is so honored to be a part of this incredible project and can't wait to see the impacts Catherine Street Park has on the Baltimore community for years to come.
